How to Setup SMTP Authentication

Click your email client below:


Outlook Express (ver 5 & 6, MS Outlook 98/2000 for Windows 98 or XP):

  1. From the Outlook Express "Tools" menu, choose "Accounts".
  2. Click the index-tab labeled "Mail".
  3. Click to highlight your CWO.COM email account, and click "Properties".
  4. Click the "Servers" index-tab.
    • In the "Server Information" section, make sure "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" is set to mail.cwo.com
    • In the "Outgoing Mail Server" section, check the box for "My server requires authentication".
  5. Click the "Settings..." button.
    If your incoming mail server is a CWO.COM server too, you can check "Use same settings as my incoming mail server". Otherwise, check "Log on using", and type your CWO.COM full email account (example@cwo.com) and password here.
  6. Click "OK".
  7. Click the “Advanced” index-tab.
    • Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP): to 587
  8. Click "OK" to return to "Internet Accounts", and close the window.

Microsoft Outlook XP & 2007 (Part of Microsoft Office XP & 2007)

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook XP or 2007
  2. From the Tools pull down menu, select "Email Accounts" (Office XP) or "Account Settings" (Office 2007).
  3. Double click your email account entry.
  4. In the "Server Information section" make sure your Outgoing (SMTP) mail server is set to mail.cwo.com.
  5. Click the button labeled "More Settings".
  6. Click on the tab labeled "Outgoing Server"
  7. Check the box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
  8. If your incoming mail server is a CWO.COM email server you can check "Use same settings as my incoming mail server". Otherwise, check "Log on using", and type your CWO.COM full email account (example@cwo.com) username and password here.
  1. Click "OK".
  2. Click the “Advanced” index-tab.
  3. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP): to 587
  1. Click "OK" to return to "Internet Accounts", and close the window.

Windows Mail (Windows Vista & Windows 7)

  1. Open Windows Mail.
  2. From the Tools menu select Accounts. The Internet Accounts box appears.
  3. Click on your account to highlight it, then click the Properties button on the right. The mail account properties appear.
  4. Select the Servers tab.
  5. In the boxes marked Incoming and Outgoing mail (SMTP) ensure that you have mail.cwo.com
  6. Under Account or User Name ensure you have the full email address inputted
  7. Under the Outgoing Mail Server section check the box My server requires authentication and click the Settings button.  The Outgoing Mail Server box appears.
  8. Click the circle-box Use same settings as my incoming server.
  9. Click OK to close the Outgoing Mail Server box. 
  10. Click the Advanced tab and change the outgoing SMTP Port to 587
  11. Click OK to close the Properties box.  Click the Close button. SMTP authentication has now been enabled.

MAC MAIL (OS 10.X)

  1. With the mail program open click on mail next to the apple and select preferences.
  2.  In the Accounts section of the window which opens up, select the user account and click the Edit button to the right of the Description window.
  3. A new window will appear. Click on Options below “Outgoing Mail Server”.
  4. Next to Authentication, select “Password”. The username and password will be your full email account (example@cwo.com) and password.
  5. If it does not say so change Outgoing Port to 587

Mozilla Thunderbird (Windows and Macintosh)

  1. Go to Tools, then Account Settings
  2. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) at the bottom of the Account Settings page
  3. Highlight the outgoing server you wish to change and click Edit
  4. Under server name input mail.cwo.com and input 587 as the server port
  5. Select use name and password and input the full email address (example@cwo.com) in the user name field
  6. Select No for use secure connection.
  7. Click OK and OK
