  1. All Things Web Well-written essays on usable web design. High intellectual level. Highly recommended.

  2. Jakob Nielsen, formerly the Web usability guru for Sun. Required reading for anyone who wants to communicate over the Web.

  3. Philip Greenspun. Computer Science professor at MIT. Greenspun created some wildly popular web sites. Irreverent and thought-provoking. Complete book is online.

  4. Principia Hypertextica by William I. Johnstone. Math professor gives rules for good web design.

  5. Yale C/AIM Web Style Guide, an excellent online book, representing the "Quality School".

  6. Usable Web: Guide to Web usability resources. ("The ultimate comprehensive collection of useful links" - Jakob Nielsen)

  7. Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, by Louis Rosenfeld and Peter Morville ( O'Reilly Nutshell Handbook). Fairly good introduction.

  8. The Design of Everyday Things, the modern classic on usability by Donald A. Norman, formerly a usability guru with Apple then HP.

  11. BUILDER.COM: Web site for Web builders (articles, opinions, how-to, interviews, and some annoying advertisements).
