Don't Mess With Mother Nature!

On January 3, 1997, the Sacramento River reached a record height, even a few (some say four, some say five or even six) inches above the flood of 1986. There was considerable damage along the River, but it was not as widespread as the flooding in other parts of the state. Nevertheless, if you had to tear out flooring and drywall, there was no consolation in being in a relatively small number.

The side-by-side pictures below show the change in the river's level. In the "normal" summer picture, the dock isn't even visible, but the lawn is. In the "flood" picture, all is under water. If it is difficult to see detail in the side-by-side pictures, you can click on each of them to see a larger version.
